There’s been important movement on the issue of sexual assault and harassment in massage therapy:
- The RMTAO has launched a Sexual Assault and Harassment Survey to gather Ontario-specific perspectives from RMTs and students.
- The CMTO has shared this survey with all registrants, recognizing that this issue needs attention at the regulatory level.
- The CMTA has added new sexual assault and harassment resources to their website, expanding what’s available nationally.
This is meaningful progress. It shows that our collective voices and this petition are making a difference — professional bodies are listening and beginning to act.
The timing, during RMTAO’s membership renewal season, also highlights how much visibility and momentum this issue now has. That visibility is a good thing. It means safety for RMTs is finally part of the broader conversation.
Surveys and resources are only first step, though. The next steps are where change will truly happen:
- Building trauma-informed supports for practitioners.
- Creating clear discharge protocols and public education tools.
- Committing to ongoing accountability so this progress doesn’t lose steam.
Thank you for continuing to sign, share, and speak up. Because of your support, we’ve moved from silence to action — and together we can ensure this becomes lasting, systemic change.
