The Issue

Wake boats on Hyrum Dam create waves that ruin the fun for other boaters. You can’t even ski without being tossed around by big waves, and tying your boat off at the dock is a disaster waiting to happen, with boats getting beaten up from relentless waves. Loading boats onto trailers becomes a hazardous endeavor due to these disruptive surges. For those who enjoy wakeboarding, the areas back where the bass spawn become their playground, to the dismay of fishermen trying to make a catch. It's nearly impossible for paddle boarders, whose fun and relaxation time is cut short by relentless waves. Small boat owners face a constant risk of waves cresting over the sides.

Wake boats not only disrupt recreational activities but have a significant environmental impact; they erode shorelines and churn up sediment, causing lasting damage to the ecosystem. The community and natural environment cannot sustain the current volume of wake boats.

Limiting the number of wake boats to a maximum of three at any given time would reduce wave disruption, protect the habitat of local wildlife, and ensure a safer, more enjoyable experience for everyone. By regulating the number of these boats, we can create a balanced and sustainable recreational area for all Hyrum Dam users.

Call on local authorities to take immediate action to implement this regulation. Encourage responsible boating practices that respect not just fellow boaters, but also the environment. Please sign this petition to restore the balance on Hyrum Dam and preserve it for current and future generations.
