As a concerned citizen who has witnessed the dangerous rise in the abuse of nitrous oxide, especially by children, I believe it is high time the government takes necessary actions. Nitrous oxide, commonly called 'whippet', is often found in completely legal products like "Galaxy Gas". These products, are alarmingly available to all age groups, and easy for inhalation, hence contributing to the misuse of this gas. Nitrous oxide abuse, when inhaled to achieve a high, can lead to permanent brain damage! Our children are unknowingly being exposed to a substance that could alter their lives drastically and irreversibly!

In 2016, the Global Drug Survey research found that nitrous oxide was the seventh-most popular drug in the seventeen countries surveyed and that excluding alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine, it was fourth-most popular in the UK (source: Global Drug Survey 2016). Such statistics highlight the drastic impact of this unfettered accessibility. Our children are at an increased risk of nitrous oxide exposure and the dangers that come with it.

We can't let this pass as a silent epidemic. It's time to ensure the safety of our future generations by demanding the government places regulations on the transportation and sale of Nitrous Oxide. The health and future of our susceptible youth are at stake.
