Regulate the Resale of Driving Tests to Ensure Fairness and Affordability

The Issue

My daughter, like so many others, is being forced to fork out hundreds - sometimes thousands - of pounds to take her driving tests due to lengthy waiting times. She paid a startling £220 to take her driving test, a price inflated by the practice of reselling tests. This practice is not just unfair but also abusive, targeting vulnerable student drivers who are eager to earn their driving licenses.

Reselling driving tests makes the process inaccessible for some based on their financial status, reinforcing social inequalities — a clear departure from the initial purpose of accessibility and mobility for all. We need to put an end to the resale of driving tests and introduce a system that allows only the original person booking the test to use it.

There are no credible statistics on how many people pay inflated prices to retake their tests due to this resale activity. However, rumors are rife within driving schools and learner communities regarding the extortionate prices being charged. This lack of transparency calls for urgent review and regulation to democratize access to driving tests.

We believe the unfair practice of reselling driving tests is a violation of equal opportunity, an invitation to corruption, and a direct exploitation of our children. We call on the Driving Standards Agency to swiftly implement laws to prohibit the resale of driving tests and ensure only the person who has originally booked the test is allowed to use it.

The right to drive should not be determined by one's ability to pay these unfair prices. Sign this petition to call for a fair and affordable process for taking driving tests.
