Regulate Social Media Algorithms to Stop the Spread of Disinformation

The Issue

Social media platforms like Facebook are helping disinformation go viral. Their algorithms are designed to maximise engagement—even if that means promoting lies, conspiracy theories, and extreme content.

This isn’t just harming our democracy. It's dividing society, fuelling mistrust, and pushing harmful narratives into the mainstream.

We’re calling on the UK Government to introduce laws that hold these platforms accountable.
We demand:

Transparency: Platforms must publish how their algorithms rank and recommend content

Independent Audits: Regular reviews to assess algorithmic impact on public discourse

Enforcement: Fines for platforms that repeatedly allow disinformation or harmful content to spread

Regulation: An independent body (like Ofcom) must be empowered to oversee social media algorithms

This isn’t about censorship—it’s about responsibility and protecting the public from manipulation.

We're also launching an official UK Parliament petition.
Once it’s live, we’ll post the link here so you can sign both and help make change happen on all fronts.

Let’s build a safer, more truthful online space—one where facts matter more than clicks.
