Regulate Participation of Ex-Professionals in Amateur National Motocross Races
The Issue
Like many other sports lovers, my passion for motocross began at an early age. The thrill of the competition, the power of the bikes, and the camaraderie among fellow motocross enthusiasts drew me in. However, a recent development has been disheartening: seeing former professional racers competing in amateur classes. This doesn’t just affect me, it affects all of us who love this sport.
An example that strikes close to home is the renowned ex-professional Mike Brown. He often competes in multiple age classes, from 25+ to 50+, and most of the times, he dominates these classes, winning by a wide margin. In fact, he still competes in professional level classes, like those at Glen Helen, where he also asserts his dominance, winning by incredibly large margins. To wit the AMA and MX sports supports this type of treatment toward true amateur athletes in the sport of motocross.
Amateurs look forward to these races as opportunities to compete, learn, and grow. But the spirit of the competition is tainted when ex-professionals enter the fray. This issue not only unevenly tips the scales of competition but also reduces the enjoyment derived from the sport. Amateur nationals are meant for those who have not participated at the professional level.
We believe that it is essential for the integrity of amateur motocross to require former professionals to race exclusively in pro or pro-amateur classes. This will ensure fair competition, allowing amateur racers their chance to compete on a leveled playing field.
It's about time that we step up and embrace a sense of fair competition for all. Stand with us to retain the true spirit of this revered sport. You can help by signing this petition today; let’s bring back the fun and excitement for all motocross enthusiasts and future riders!
