I am a domestic abuse survivor. The perpetrator responsible for abusing me is now working as a locksmith. I am terrified for the access that this perpetrator has to the public, particularly women and children. During this abusive relationship, the perpetrator stalked, harassed, raped, attacked, kidnapped and broke into my home. 

Currently, there are no mandatory regulations or licensing requirements for locksmiths in the UK. This lack of oversight allows individuals with criminal backgrounds to operate freely within this profession. According to a report by Which? magazine (2019), over 60% of locksmiths surveyed had no formal qualifications.

We urgently need legislation that mandates background checks and proper licensing for all locksmiths operating in the UK to ensure public safety.
