"Reggae on West Beach": A Free Community Event Tradition CALL TO ACTION
The Issue
As a dedicated community event coordinator and proud member of the New Bedford community, I believe in the power of free cultural events that strengthen our local community in a positive manner. "Reggae on West Beach Summer Series," is a vital artery of our city's cultural pulse. With going on ten successful years behind it, the event not only offers free entertainment but also represents a key source of our community's cultural richness while giving back. However, its continuity is threatened due to the significant costs associated with running 100% free to all attendees.
"Reggae on West Beach" is not just about music; it binds our community together, enabling us to share experiences and create memories. Many families in New Bedford and our sister cities / towns look forward to it year after year. It's about strengthening the bonds between neighbors and fostering a sense of belonging among the local people we call family.
Regrettably, the financial strain the event imposes may lead to its cessation, leaving a void in our community life. As a volunteer organizer for this event, I can attest to its impact and the real threat of these mounting costs.
To sustain OUR beloved event, we need the sponsorship of City Hall and the Parks and Recreation Department. They have the power to ensure that such cultural events can continue without creating a financial burden on community volunteers forcing them to throw in the towel.
Backing "Reggae on West Beach" is not just about preserving a free music event; it's about supporting the fabric of New Bedford's community, small businesses, and culture. Let's join forces to save this valuable piece of our community spirit that was created by the people for the people.
Sign this petition to urge City Hall (Mayor Mitchell) and the Parks and Recreation Department (Mary Raposa) to sponsor "Reggae on West Beach," ensuring its longevity as a free cultural event for all New Bedford residents.
