Hi all,
COVID has really put a slowdown in everything. But now that theaters have reopened and Tenet has finally released, I thought it was time to really drive this home and send the official list of signatures and a formal letter to Regal. I have done one last reach out to get as many names on this as possible before I mail it out.
In case you don't know, the Museum of Discovery and Science AutoNation IMAX theater in Ft. Lauderdale surprised us and will be screening Tenet in jaw dropping IMAX 70mm for up to four weeks. I trekked from Orlando on Monday to see the film as intended, it was mystifying, but I would've preferred if I didn't have to drive 6 hours total roundtrip, I would've liked if I could see Tenet to the fullest right here in my home city at Pointe Orlando. The AutoNation sold out three straight evenings of early access screenings, while the Pointe Orlando IMAX was barley 1/8th full for the opening August 31st early access screening. All of us who trekked from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale could've brought our business to Regal's Pointe Orlando location instead, if they offered a proper presentation of Tenet in the full 1.43 IMAX aspect ratio. The same goes for the dozen other IMAX theaters under Regal's watch all over the country that were fitted with the inferior single laser system and would not present Tenet to the fullest. People went out of their way and traveled long distances to see a proper presentation of Tenet, and they drove right on past Regal's theaters to get there. Regal has really shot themselves in the foot here. Don't worry, this is something I made sure to point out to Regal while writing the letter to send with the petition.
While Pointe Orlando has remained 100% unchanged from before the shutdown and is still presenting Tenet in a watered down 1.90 digital Xneon experience, we have been told by local managent that they have received a memo from corporate about a potential dual laser instal over single, which means we have a chance of winning this thing. However, we must not let up the pressure. I will not declare victory until I see the dual laser system installed at Pointe Orlando with my own two eyes. It has also been indicated that a laser renovation of any kind could be a while off, as things need to calm down from the COVID madness first. A win for Pointe Orlando could also mean a ripple effect and the other Regal IMAX auditoriums and single laser locations would also be eventually swapped over to the dual system.
