The Issue

Every hardworking individual values the time they dedicate to their job, pouring in effort and commitment to ensure excellence. However, it's equally important to honour and protect the sanctity of personal time off. As an employee who consistently gives 110%, it's only fair to have days off respected as true days of rest and rejuvenation.

Currently, the expectation for professionals in our field to be on call from 7-11 PM, even on their scheduled days off, is not only unrealistic but also detracts from their well-being and family time. For a workforce that already commits significant hours to their profession, being mandated to remain accessible during their breaks is both unjust and counterproductive.

Studies have shown that proper rest and time away from work significantly boost productivity, creativity, and improve mental health. According to research from the World Health Organization, excessive work hours contribute substantially to burnout, stress, and overall job dissatisfaction. Ensuring staff have legitimate time to recharge isn't just beneficial for them, but it positively impacts their work quality and reduces turnover rates, fostering a healthier and more sustainable work environment.

We propose a clear policy change: exempt employees from being assigned on-call duties during previously scheduled days off. This is a crucial step toward respecting personal time and fostering a healthier, more balanced work-life environment. It can be achieved through strategic scheduling and recognizing the necessity of personal time in work contracts.

Sign this petition to support employees' rights to genuine leisure time and to call for actionable change that protects our personal lives from unnecessary work encroachments.
