Petition Closed

Mr. Branstad,

Please refuse to sign HB589 into law. Animals are worthy of our consideration and should be given adequate and clean facilities to live in regardless of whether or not they are to be slaughtered for human consumption.

Animals are worthy of our moral consideration and are able to feel pain, anxiety and many feelings humans feel. They know discomfort and regardless of their mortality should be able to be free from these conditions. To make it a misdameanor to report animal abuse in these facilities open up the door to abuse that to most of us is unthinkable. We have an obligation to these animals to make sure they are kept in humane conditions and are free from abuse from their caretakers.

This is an urgent matter and we do hope that you will consider the negative impact that would result from action not being taken to prevent this law from being put into place.

Thank you for your consideration,
Emily R. Sargent (& fellow supporters)
