The Issue

Higher Antley Street in Accrington is more than just a location—it's our beloved home. Our tight-knit community is one where neighbors know each other by name, where children play freely in the streets, and where families have established their roots for generations. However, our community's stability and charm are under threat from a proposed development: a 7-bedroom House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) on our street (Fountain Street).

This proposal is not just a minor change; it risks fundamentally altering the character of our neighborhood. Parking in our area is already a significant challenge, with limited spaces causing regular congestion. Adding a 7-bedroom HMO will exacerbate this problem, leading to increased traffic and making it more dangerous for our children who play outside. The safety and well-being of our children should never be compromised.

Moreover, this overdevelopment is entirely out of character with the rest of the neighborhood. Our community is comprised of family homes and not transient housing. The introduction of an HMO could disrupt the harmony and long-term relationships that have developed over many years. It threatens the essence of what makes our community special—a place where people feel secure, connected, and invested in their surroundings.

We urge the local council to consider the negative implications this HMO would bring and to put community interests first by refusing this development. Protecting the integrity and cohesiveness of our residential area must be a priority. Let's preserve the uniqueness of Higher Antley Street/ Fountain Street and continue to foster an environment where families and community spirit thrive.
