After witnessing my toddler trip and fall, grazing his face and knees on multiple occasions, I feel very strongly that George Street Playground is overdue for refurbishment. It’s clear that the playground, which is a beloved community resource, requires crucial upgrades to improve safety and enjoyment for children and families who use it.

Currently, the playground lacks the necessary safety surfacing that would soften falls and reduce injuries. Investing in a modern rubberised surface throughout the playground, that absorbs impact could significantly decrease the number of playground injuries among young children. Additionally, the existing play equipment is outdated and no longer adequately serves the intended purpose of stimulating children's physical and social play. By introducing more modern and varied play structures, utilising natural materials, we can foster a more engaging and educational play environment.

Moreover, the playground offers limited shade, making it an uncomfortable space during the sunnier months. Installing shade structures or planting additional trees could provide much-needed relief from the sun, encouraging longer and more frequent visits by families. This would not only enhance the usability of the playground but also create a cooler and more welcoming atmosphere for everyone.

George Street Playground holds tremendous potential to be more than just a spot for play; it can be a focal point of our community, a place where friendships are forged and memories are made. By refurbishing this playground, we are investing in our children's futures, promoting community spirit, and ensuring that our neighborhood remains a desirable place to live and grow.
