Reform the System for Addressing Retaliation and Harassment in Federal Government Workplaces

The Issue

As a dedicated federal employee with thirty years of service, I have witnessed an alarming number of retaliation and harassment incidents. Currently, I am embroiled in an EEO case, representing employees who have been victimized by their employers. In response to my advocacy, my employer has taken retaliatory actions against me that do not align with established guidelines for retaliation.

The existing system for addressing these issues is flawed. It allows employers to circumvent or disregard the protocols and protections put in place to safeguard employees from such behavior. This lack of accountability fosters a toxic work environment that hinders productivity and morale.

According to a 2019 report by the U.S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), there were over 72,000 workplace discrimination charges filed nationwide - many involving claims of retaliation against whistleblowers (source: EEOC). This statistic underscores the urgency with which we need to address this issue.

We must advocate for substantial alterations in how we comprehend and resolve cases of retaliation and harassment within our federal government workplaces. We call upon policymakers to reform these systems - ensuring they are transparent, fair, and hold all parties accountable.
