We, the undersigned students of BYU, are calling on the ROC Board to reconsider the newly announced ticket distribution system for football and Olympic sports before it goes into effect.

This new policy requires students to claim a ticket for every Olympic sport (WSOC, WVB, MVB, GYM, WBB, BSB, SFT) in order to build up a group number, which then determines their odds of getting a good football ticket. On paper this is framed as rewarding loyal fans. In practice, it punishes the students who are already stretched the thinnest.

1. It penalizes students who work, commute, or carry a full course load. Many students cannot show up to a 3pm Wednesday softball game or claim tickets to seven different Olympic sport events throughout the season. Students who work jobs, commute to campus, or are carrying a demanding class schedule simply do not have the free time to chase attendance credit the way this system requires. The result is that football tickets end up favoring students with the most open schedules rather than the students who have supported BYU athletics the longest or most consistently.
2. The timeline does not actually work. Several Olympic sports do not begin their season until after football season is already underway or over. That means there is no realistic way for students to build up attendance credit in those sports before football tickets are being allocated. A system that asks students to earn something they have no practical opportunity to earn is not a loyalty program, it is a flawed rollout.
3. The process lacks transparency. Students have no visibility into how group numbers are actually calculated, which is fueling real distrust. Without a clear, published explanation of the criteria, students are left assuming the worst about how tickets get allocated, and that distrust falls on the ROC Board regardless of whether it is deserved.
4. This is a downgrade, not an improvement.Students who remember previous systems, including the old camping model, generally agree that this new points based approach is worse, not better. A policy that makes the ticket process more complicated and less predictable year over year is moving in the wrong direction, and it is already prompting students to look for ways to game the system rather than genuinely engage with it.

We are not asking the ROC Board to abandon the idea of rewarding fan engagement. We are asking for a system that:

• Does not penalize students simply because they work, commute, or have demanding academic schedules
• Only counts attendance requirements for sports that are realistically in season and accessible before ticket allocation
• Publishes clear, specific criteria for how group numbers are determined
• Is tested and reviewed with real student feedback before being implemented, not after

Students want to support BYU athletics across every sport. We are simply asking for a system that makes that possible for all students, not just the ones with the most free time.
