As students in Wentzville School District, we are facing huge challenges due to current grading policies. Tests are worth 70% of our final grade, leaving only 30% for everything else. This is a personal issue for me and many of my peers because no matter how hard we work on our assignments, one bad test result renders all this effort useless. We are not against evaluation through tests but believe a balance needs to be established where our daily effort is recognized and rewarded properly. This isn't just personal opinion. According to the National Education Association, homework has been found to foster study habits and to promote discipline and responsibility, which might not be reflected with the current formation of grades in our district. Let's advocate for a less test-dominated grading system and to flip the current ratio where, 70% of the final grade is based on other elements such as daily assignments, and 30% is based on tests.
