The current dress code policy at Surigao del Norte National High School has been a subject of concern among students and parents alike. It is perceived as outdated, restrictive, and not reflective of the diverse student body. We believe that a school's dress code should promote a safe and respectful learning environment without compromising individuality or cultural expression.

According to studies, strict dress codes can negatively impact students' self-esteem and academic performance (American Psychological Association). Furthermore, it may unintentionally promote gender bias and discrimination. In the Philippines where we value freedom of expression as enshrined in our constitution, such policies seem contradictory.

We propose that Surigao del Norte National High School revises its dress code policy to be more inclusive and considerate of different cultures, genders, religions, and personal preferences. This will not only foster an environment conducive for learning but also teach our students about respect for diversity.
