Reform the Dress Code at Jollif Middle School

Reform the Dress Code at Jollif Middle School
The Issue
As a concerned member of the Jollif Middle School community in Chesapeake, VA, I have noticed an alarming trend. Many students, particularly girls, are being dress-coded frequently. This is not only disrupting their education but also creating an environment where they feel targeted and uncomfortable.
The current dress code policy seems to affect female students disproportionately. It's important to note that according to research by the National Women's Law Center (NWLC), such policies can contribute to a hostile school climate for girls and LGBTQ+ students. They argue that these policies often reinforce gender stereotypes and can lead to body shaming.
We believe it is time for a change. We propose that Jollif Middle School enforce the dress code for all students regardless of gender. They should open up the dress code, it is not the student's responsibility to maintain interest in the lesson. I repeat girls should not be the ones responsible for boys' interest or distraction in the classroom.
By signing this petition, you support our call for a fairer dress code at Jollif Middle School that respects individuality while maintaining decorum in our educational setting.
