Reform the DMCA Now: Stop Silencing Creators and Protect Free Speech

The Issue

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), enacted in 1998, was meant to protect creators. But in 2025, it’s a weapon silencing us. I’m Lena Harper, a Canadian illustrator who lost my livelihood and mental health after false DMCA takedowns demonetized my YouTube channel for three months (Eryon Episode 04). I’m not alone—James Landry, an Oregon musician, had his original song erased for five months by a bot (NBS Episode 02), and Amina Juma, a Kenyan teacher, lost her science tutorials, leaving her students stranded (Eryon Episode 02).
The DMCA lets bots flag 98% of content without context (NBS Episode 01), profits platforms like YouTube through false claims (NBS Episode 05), and exposes creators to doxxing (NBS Episode 03). It erases history (NBS Episode 04), censors whistleblowers (NBS Episode 07), and blocks education (NBS Episode 09). This isn’t protection—it’s control, violating our free speech and due process.
We demand reform:
Require human review before takedowns.
Penalize false claims with $1,000 fines per instance.
Protect fair use, education, and public domain content.
Create a public claim database for transparency.
Join us—100,000 voices can force the Ways and Means Committee to act. Sign now to reclaim our voices, preserve our history, and protect the internet for all.
