As a parent who has experienced the heart-wrenching reality of having my child taken away by the Children's Aid Society (CAS) of Ontario based solely on hearsay, I am calling for an urgent reform in their child removal policies. Currently, CAS can apprehend children from their homes without any concrete evidence or reasonable cause to believe that they have been harmed or are at risk of harm. This practice has led to many families being torn apart and caused irreversible trauma for both parents and children.

In 2019 alone, there were over 10,000 instances where children were removed from their homes by CAS in Ontario (source: Government of Ontario). A significant number of these cases involved healthy, happy children who were deemed "at risk" without any substantial proof. This is not just a violation of parental rights but also detrimental to the emotional well-being and development of our children.

We urge the provincial government to review and amend these policies so that only those children who have been proven beyond doubt to be in immediate danger are removed from their homes. We need a system that prioritizes maintaining family units while ensuring child safety rather than one which operates on mere speculation.
