Reform the Airbnb Review System
The Issue
As a host, I am fed up with the stress of the current Airbnb review system. The pressure to maintain perfect ratings is overwhelming and often unfair. Many hosts share my frustration, as one negative review can significantly impact our ability to attract guests. According to a study by AirDNA, even a small drop in rating can lead to a 13% decrease in bookings.
The current system does not accurately reflect the overall quality of service provided by hosts and places undue stress on maintaining flawless ratings. We need a more balanced and fair review process that considers multiple factors and provides constructive feedback rather than punitive measures.
Most of THE entire world views a review system in aspects of the hotel system. A 4 star hotel is an amazing hotel. Which is why I keep getting 4 star reviews where people are saying really good things. They do not understand your system and we’re sick of it.
I would like to propose this for your consideration:
Instead of giving us $100 a year for super host, allow us to remove 1-2 reviews of our choice. We have proven we are really good hosts and should be able to remove a 4 star review.
Also: PLEASE coach our guests. When they book, send them an automatic message on how your review system works. Many times guests tell me they left 4 stars because a 5 star review is like a hotel that costs 10 grand to stay at. They do not understand your system and the hosts are paying for it.
Right now, air bnb is the number one STR platform. But for how long? All it takes is another platform who has a better system than you guys to come along and your profit margins will plummet. And I assure you, many hosts are begging for this because we are sick of being punished for a 4 star review.
Thank you for your consideration and I hope to see some changes. I am getting to a point where I want to pull my listings because I’m tired of the stress. Most of us work too hard for such an unfair system
