Reform Superannuation Laws for Domestic Violence Victims

The issue

Recent studies have revealed that 1 in 6 women and 1 in 16 men have been victims of physical and/or sexual violence by a current or previous partner (Australian Bureau of Statistics).

49 women have already died this year by the hands of someone they know.

Domestic violence survivors frequently need financial support to escape and recover from abusive situations, but current superannuation laws 'do not cater to that' - direct quote to me from a super annuation representative.

Regulations that limit access to superannuation funds impede DV victims safety, quite often funds of DV victims are monitored, controlled or completely taken, and not having access to their own super funds can trap them in dangerous environments longer than necessary.

By reforming superannuation laws to allow survivors of domestic violence early access to their savings, we can empower these individuals to establish safe and stable living situations. The Australian government has an obligation to protect and support citizens suffering from domestic abuse. It's time we made it easier for survivors to tap into their own resources and secure a safer future.

Please support this vitally important law reform. Sign the petition now to urge lawmakers to make our superannuation system more responsive to the needs of domestic violence survivors, especially in these times.
