As a parent of 2 children who finds solace in annual family holidays, I am deeply affected by the current school holiday system and the fines imposed on parents who take their children on vacations during school terms. My children like many other children, benefits greatly from these breaks that serve as a respite for us and our family. The stress caused by not being able to go away due to school fines is immense.

School holidays currently account for 13 weeks of the year, leaving working parents struggling to find childcare as they typically only receive 21 days of annual leave. This discrepancy puts undue pressure on families across the country.

Moreover, holiday companies often increase their prices during school holidays making it even more difficult for families to afford these much-needed breaks. This practice further exacerbates the financial strain faced by many households.

We urge policy makers to consider reducing the length of school holidays or providing additional support for working parents during this time. Furthermore, we call upon them to abolish fines for parents taking their children out of school for educational trips or family vacations that contribute significantly towards their overall wellbeing.

Finally, we request that measures be taken against holiday companies who exploit families by hiking up prices during peak times such as school holidays.

From the 19th August 2024 the New Fining system comes into force!!! Let’s stop this! And being controlled what we can do with our children!!!
