Growing up in the Free State, I remember when the Matjhabeng local municipality was one of the cleanest and most respected municipalities under the Apartheid era. It was a place where our community thrived, and our infrastructure was well-maintained. Today, it is heartbreaking to witness the decline of our beloved home under the current governance.

The conditions we are living in today are appalling. Poor service delivery, inadequate infrastructure development, and rampant corruption have become the norm. Fraud and maladministration permeate the very institutions that are supposed to uplift and serve our people. It’s disheartening to see nepotism overriding meritocracy and competence, leading to inefficiency and a lack of accountability.

In recent years, reports have highlighted the severe mismanagement of funds, resulting in a failing infrastructure and deteriorating public services which directly affect the quality of life for all Matjhabeng residents. Roads are in disrepair, waste management is lacking, and our communities are suffering due to continual neglect.

We urgently need a reformed approach to governance in Matjhabeng. We need a leadership that prioritizes transparency, accountability, and the welfare of its residents. Implementing stricter regulations and oversight can help curb corruption and maladministration.

We call upon the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough audit of the Matjhabeng local municipality. Establishing an independent body to oversee municipal operations and ensure the allocation of resources is fair and just can be a game changer for our municipality. We need responsible governance that listens to the voices of its people and acts in their best interest.
