Reform Laws and Societal Attitudes Surrounding Violence Against Women

Reform Laws and Societal Attitudes Surrounding Violence Against Women
The issue
My name is Harriet, and I speak to you today as a survivor - enduring twelve agonizing years of violence, fear and coercive control, with a system that blamed me instead of helping. No woman should have to lose her life to such a corrupted system as I did, hence, I implore you to take this stand for myself and every other victim out there who is suffering and experiencing similar challenges.
Every woman's life is invaluable, and it is high time our society and its systems recognized this. Violence against women is rampant. Globally, 1 in 3 women have experienced either physical or sexual violence in their lifetime, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). This is a saddening reflection of how the current system not only fails to protect women, but also contributes to their victimization by perpetuating a culture of blame and stigmatization.
We can no longer sit back and allow this inaction and blame to continue. It's time for comprehensive reform that addresses both societal attitudes and systemic inadequacies. We urge politicians, law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, and society at large to ensure the protection, safety, and healing of women. We need laws that protect victims and survivors, not condemn them. We need societal norms that stand up against violence, not perpetuate it.
Help survivors regain their lives and build a world where no woman lives in fear of violence. Let's change the prevailing attitudes, reshape the system, and put an end to the violence suffered by countless women every day. Let’s stop systemic victim blaming to create a society where women can flourish instead of disappearing. Please, sign this petition and stand up against violence towards women.
