The Issue

This is more than an issue of preference; it's an essential aspect of my life. As the prices of eggs swoop as high as $7 per dozen at grocery stores, the cost of obtaining this complete protein source has become exceedingly difficult. Eggs, renowned for their health benefits, have been significantly reduced in my diet and the diets of many locals because they are simply becoming too expensive to afford.

In response to this, I desire to own egg laying poultry. Specifically, I am seeking permission to keep up to a dozen hens or ducks in any combinarion or two dozen quail of any species in any combination, in Junction City, Kansas. Currently, the law prohibits the ownership of these birds, stripping away a sustainable, cost-effective solution to meet dietary needs.

Evidence of the viability of backyard poultry can be observed nationwide. Many US cities, including New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, permit backyard poultry, providing tens of thousands of households with a steady supply of fresh eggs (source: National Agricultural Law Center). There are guidelines for responsible ownership to prevent any potential nuisances or health concerns.

Revamping Junction City's laws on poultry ownership has the potential to significantly mitigate domestic food expenses. It also promises a healthier and fresher option for dinner tables across the city. Let's make a change that genuinely improves lives. Please sign this petition to aid in seeking lawful ownership of egg-laying poultry in Junction City, Kansas.
