Reform Family Court Practices in Dallas, Texas

The Issue

My name is a voice among many who have suffered due to the current practices of the family court system in Dallas, Texas. During my child support hearing, Judge Kim Cooks presided over my case. Her conduct during the hearing was unprofessional and biased. She had her camera off when it was my turn to speak and even removed my protection order against my abuser.

This is not an isolated incident but a reflection of systemic issues within our family courts. A study by the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges found that 70% of contested custody cases involved domestic violence or child abuse allegations. Yet, only 10-20% of these cases resulted in protective orders being issued (National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges). This suggests that there are significant barriers for victims seeking justice.

We need reform now more than ever. We ask for transparency in court proceedings, unbiased judges who follow rules without personal interference, and proper consideration given to all parties involved - especially those vulnerable or at risk.

By signing this petition, we can bring about change in our family courts that will ensure fair treatment for all parties involved - because everyone deserves justice. Please sign this petition today.

Kim Cooks is running for the appellate court, please be sure we go out and vote no for Judge Kim Cooks on March 5,2024
