The Issue

We, the graduating students of Delta College (2026), are requesting an immediate review and revision of the current graduation ticket policy and ceremony structure for the upcoming commencement.

This year’s graduating class is significantly larger than previous years, with an estimated increase of approximately 144%. Despite this growth, ticket allocations have been reduced from five (5) tickets per graduate to three (3). This change severely limits the ability of students’ families and supporters to attend one of the most important milestones of their academic journey.

We believe this policy is unfair and does not adequately reflect the scale of this year’s graduating class or the importance of equitable access to graduation.

In addition to restoring a reasonable number of tickets per graduate, we also propose that Delta College consider restructuring the ceremony format to better accommodate the increased class size.

One practical solution would be to hold two separate ceremonies:

• One ceremony for certificate and non-transfer students
• One ceremony for transfer degree students or divided by program/discipline

This would help:

• Reduce overcrowding and excessive ceremony length
• Improve the overall experience for graduates and guests
•Ensure that each graduate’s moment is meaningful and well-recognized
•Allow fairer distribution of tickets per ceremony segment

Graduation is a once-in-a-lifetime achievement. Students and their families deserve a ceremony that is organized, inclusive, and reflective of the effort it took to reach this milestone.

We respectfully urge Delta College administration to reconsider the current ticket limitation and explore a more equitable and practical ceremony structure for this year and future graduating classes.
