Reform Arkansas Law to Allow Spouses to be Paid Caregivers

Reform Arkansas Law to Allow Spouses to be Paid Caregivers
The Issue
My father is permanently disabled, plunging our family into a reality that no one could ever be prepared for. My mother lovingly stepped up to become his full-time caregiver, even going as far as quitting her job to devote all her time to his care. Yet, like many devoted spouses in Arkansas, my mother's sacrifice is not recognized under the current legislation as a payable service.
In Arkansas, like several other states, the Medicaid program does not permit spouses to be paid as caregivers. This practice not only undervalues the dedicated labor of these persons but also puts a financial strain on families who are already tackling significant medical expenses. Furthermore, this policy contradicts the rights afforded to non-spousal caregivers, whose critical work is recognized and compensated under Medicaid.
I am reaching out to every Arkansan and concerned citizens throughout the nation. We have a chance to change this unfair policy. We propose that the Arkansas state government amend its caregiver laws to include spouses as recognized and paid caregivers, just as they do for non-spousal caregivers. This move would be a significant stride towards acknowledging and compensating the sacrifices made by devoted husbands and wives across the state.
Join our collective act of empathy and justice. Sign this petition today to urge the Arkansas state government to reform current caregiver laws to recognize and compensate spousal caregiving. Your signature can help ensure that nobody has to choose between caring for their loved ones and sustaining their livelihood.
