Put simply... the money spent this Jubilee to celebrate a hereditary monarch is obscene.

During the worst cost of living crisis in a generation, the Royal Family costs the taxpayer up to £345 million each year, to exist as an archaic and unnecessary emblem from a bygone era.

People sleep on the street outside huge estates that are unoccupied and not open for public use, despite funding them themselves, and families are currently deciding on whether to choose 'heating or eating' for their families. 

Arguments that point towards how the monarchy benefit Britain do a huge disservice to how incredible this country is, irrespective of an antiquated hereditary elite. Tourists still flock to Versailles in Paris, despite that fact that there is no reigning monarch inside. Buckingham Palace should be the same.

The Queen holds a special place in much of the nation's heart, and was in place when the monarchy was a huge part of British society. (rightly or wrongly) 

But the time has come to assess whether or not this is something the public actually wants in the 21st Century.
