Reevaluate Swift River Elementary Car Line System

Reevaluate Swift River Elementary Car Line System
The Issue
Parents of Swift River Elementary students are deeply concerned about the new car line system implemented this year in Belchertown, MA. My children's safety is at risk, and I believe other parents share similar apprehensions. The current setup is not only chaotic but also grossly inefficient, leading to an unsafe environment for our children and unnecessary stress for parents and staff involved.
Since the introduction of this new system, many parents have observed an alarming increase in traffic congestion around the school during pick-up times. The car line extends dangerously in multiple directions causing confusion and creating potential hazards for both cars and pedestrians. Additionally, the process now takes significantly longer, resulting in longer wait times that affect everyone’s schedule.
This situation needs immediate attention from the decision-makers, especially Brian Cameron and Magda Harrison, who have the authority to implement changes that prioritize safety and efficiency. We propose a comprehensive evaluation of the current system, with a strong consideration of reverting to the previous car line pick-up method, which was not only faster but importantly, much safer for our children.
Transportation experts could be consulted to optimize the flow of traffic and reduce the risk of accidents. Implementing signage and employing more staff members to guide the process could also lead to improvements in efficiency and safety.
In Belchertown, we treasure our sense of community and looking out for the well-being of our children is a fundamental part of that. Ensuring a safe and orderly environment for school pick-ups is a responsibility we all share and demand action upon.
Please join me in urging Brian Cameron and Magda Harrison to review this situation urgently and make necessary adjustments for the safety of our children and the peace of mind of parents. Sign this petition and help bring about the much-needed change at Swift River Elementary.
