The Issue

My family's history is interwoven with the building known as the Bury. This is where I, along with my siblings, were registered at birth, where countless couples, including myself, proclaimed their commitment in marriage. It was also the place where unfortunately, the death of loved ones was recorded. Just like many hundreds of thousands of others before and after us, our lives were acknowledged in this building.

Sadly, the Bury is no longer functioning in this capacity. It had been used by the local MP and now lies strangely silent and underutilised. It's not just a building, it is a testament to countless waves of life experiences, a symbol of significant passages in people's lives.

Allowing it to remain unused is like erasing a portion of our collective history and personal narratives. I strongly call for the return of the Bury to its initial glory. As it once used to, it should again handle marriages, births and deaths.

Not only will this decision preserve a deeply rooted community sentiment, but it will also make an effective use of an existing infrastructure, providing easy access to these essential services for our community.

Let's retain our community's identity and promote its strength through continuity. Please sign this petition urging our local authorities to reestablish Bury as the center for Marriages, Births and Deaths.
