DONT GIVE SPOT BACK TO HIS FAMILY.

The Issue

Shivering with fear, this poor boy with his tail tucked had to be carried into the shelter. He knew!

UPDATE: In what the previous owner has categorized as "one of the biggest mistakes" of his life, Blake Lechner posted on his Facebook he would like to have the dog he surrendered to Fort Benning Animal Control returned to him. He said he knew it was a mistake within 48 hours and has since pleaded for the return of the dog named Spot. Sadly the contract to surrender allows an owner only 12 hours to change their mind.

The discussions on social media have been weighing in on both sides, however at the present time, it appears Spot will be made available for adoption through Tri County Animal Rescue and not returned to the Lechner family. Whatever the outcome of this extremely emotional situation, there are no winners or losers. The main concern is what is best for Spot.

A one-and-a half-year-old gentle American bulldog's life turned upside down on Sunday afternoon at a rural Georgia shelter. At the Fort Benning Animal Control, a volunteer was brought to tears as she watched a family surrender their dog. In fact, the heartbroken dog had to be carried into the shelter; his tail was tucked, his eyes were wide, and he visibly trembled.

And what was his crime? The family told the shelter personnel they were giving up their dog because they were "expecting a baby." How is it that most dogs when properly socialized and trained make excellent companions and valuable family members and friends with children? "There's really nothing that I can do to make him feel better right now, except to wait until he feels more at ease with his current situation," stated Nadine B*** who watched the dog's zest for life turn into a profound depression. Click here for this dog's Facebook page, and share his sad plight with friends, family and social media contacts. An additional link for the shelter can be found by clicking here.

Interested in becoming a foster or adopting this beautiful dog? This dog is currently located at the Fort Benning Animal Control. Call 706-326-7196 for more information. From the dedicated staff and volunteers at Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, founder Stacey Silverstein states: "Dogs are a 10-15 year commitment for the most part, so please do not get a dog unless you plan on keeping them - when and if you decide to have children. There are many studies out there documenting how having dogs actually are good for children." As sad as the face of this dog makes everyone feel, please share his desperate situation and help him find a loving home.
