Reduce Traffic and Improve Safety around Amber Charter School Inwood

Reduce Traffic and Improve Safety around Amber Charter School Inwood
The Issue
We, the members of the Inwood community, including Amber Charter School families and surrounding residents of the area, respectfully request that the Amber Charter School campus located at 532 West 215th Street, New York, New York be granted a one year renewal of their charters as opposed to a five year renewal.
The undersigned community members request a one year renewal in order to allow time for Amber Charter School Inwood, Amber Charter School Kingsbridge Middle School, the DOT and other city agencies to address long standing traffic and safety issues that have continued to escalate since the two schools opened at this location.
A primary concern of community members is around the inability of emergency vehicles to enter and exit the area immediately surrounding the Amber Charter School Inwood campus during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times. These high volume times have also resulted in a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle, vehicles blocking crosswalks, idling for long periods, vehicles driving the wrong way up one-way streets as well as engaging in illegal u-turns on the narrow streets. These are ongoing examples that put the school community and local residents in danger on a daily basis.
We, the undersigned, request the one year renewal to provide time for the safety issues to be studied and remediated prior to considering a longer charter approval.
