The Issue

Free Bayfront Park (a.k.a Brownie's Beach) to the Public & Increase the Chesapeake Beach Water Park capacity (reasonably) to reduce the fees.

Dear: Mayor Patrick Mahoney and Esteemed Members of the Town Council, Larry Jaworski, Greg Morris, Keith Pardiock, Margaret Hartman, Charles Fink, and Valerie Beaudin.

I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing today as a concerned resident and community activist in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. I want to express my deep displeasure and concern regarding the recently implemented Resolution 23-1, which prohibits nonresidents from accessing the beach.

While I understand the need to prioritize the interests and well-being of local residents, the complete exclusion of nonresidents is an unjust and discriminatory action. It is crucial for our town to promote equality, inclusivity, and a sense of community among all individuals, regardless of their place of residence. This resolution appears to carry racial undertones and perpetuates socioeconomic disparities within our community.

The beach is a public space that should be accessible to all, irrespective of their ZIP code. By denying nonresidents the right to enjoy our beautiful shoreline, we are not only undermining the principles of fairness and justice but also hindering the potential growth and development of Chesapeake Beach as a welcoming and diverse destination.

Furthermore, I would also like to draw your attention to the recent Chesapeake Beach Water Park price increase. While it is understandable that operational costs may rise over time, the significant price hike disproportionately impacts low- and middle-class families. This limits access to recreational facilities for families and individuals in our community and reinforces socioeconomic divisions.

As elected officials entrusted with the welfare of the entire community, I implore you to thoroughly consider the negative implications of Resolution 23-1 and the Chesapeake Water Park's pricing strategy. It is essential that we work towards a more inclusive and equitable environment for all residents and visitors of Chesapeake Beach. I suggest engaging in an open and transparent dialogue with community members, local organizations, and relevant stakeholders to find alternative solutions that foster unity and address any legitimate concerns without perpetuating discrimination or socioeconomic disparities.

I firmly believe that we can build a stronger and more cohesive community by fostering an environment where everyone feels welcome and included. We can reaffirm Chesapeake Beach as a town that values diversity, inclusivity, and equal opportunities for all its residents and visitors.

Please sign this petition if you support finding practical solutions that uphold the principles of fairness, equality, and unity that our town and country should stand for.

Yours sincerely,

Denise Plater
