This petition is the voice of the concerned day shift intensive care unit team in Santa Clara. We have recently experienced a significant increase in the number of tasks assigned to us. This escalation has led to feelings of stress, burnout, and even failure; it is disheartening to leave work most days feeling unable to complete tasks due to the increasing workload.

This is not an isolated issue. According to the American Nurses Association, roughly 63% of nurses have reported an increase in their workloads in the past five years. Such an increase not only affects nurses and their mental health but patient care as well.

Patients are suffering from lack of proper care due to overloaded schedules. The nurse to patient ratio is not accommodating the current increase, thus adding to the stress and burnout rate of the dedicated nurses (Source: National Nursing United).

To ensure outstanding patient care and nurse well-being, we must implement policies that balance the patient-to-nurse ratio and consider measures to decrease task load for day shift nurses. We urge the health sector administrators to review and act.
