Reduce the Speed Limit on Chase Way, Southgate, London for Pedestrian Safety

Reduce the Speed Limit on Chase Way, Southgate, London for Pedestrian Safety
The Issue
As a concerned parent and resident of Southgate, I am deeply worried about the high-speed traffic on Chase Way. My daughter attends a local school in this area and like many other children, she walks to school daily. The current speed limit poses a significant risk to her safety and that of other pedestrians.
According to data from the Department for Transport (DfT), in 2019 alone there were 153 fatalities and over 25,000 injuries due to road traffic accidents in London. A significant proportion of these incidents involved pedestrians. Reducing speed limits has been proven effective in reducing road casualties; research by the World Health Organisation shows that an increase in average speed is directly related both to the likelihood of a crash occurring and to the severity of its consequences.
By reducing the speed limit on Chase Way, we can help protect our children, our neighbours, and ourselves from preventable harm. We urge local authorities to consider this urgent plea for safety measures that will make our community safer for everyone.
Please sign this petition if you believe that pedestrian safety should be prioritised over convenience for drivers. Let's work together towards making Chase Way safe!
