As a concerned citizen, I feel deeply about the financial inequalities in our nation. Leading to these Mass cuts in every department of Government. Our government expects us to make ends meet with an average wage of $8 an hour, yet the salaries of our elected representatives significantly outpace this figure. It's time to request our Senate and House of Representatives to set an example by reducing their salaries to $75,000 annually, equivalent to approximately $25 an hour. According to the Congressional Research Service, as of 2020, the base salary for all senators and House representatives is $174,000 per year (Congressional Research Service, 2020). It's evident that a gap exists. It's no secret that the cost of living is soaring, and at the same time, government services and infrastructures are underfunded. Let's challenge this status quo and push for a system where our elected representatives are no longer exempt from the economic struggles faced by the majority of Americans.
