Reduce the Required Driving Distance for Canadian Federal Employees

The Issue

I recently worked for the federal government in Canada, despite having visual and mental disabilities. Although I was provided accommodation, I couldn't help but imagine the plight of my peers who were without disabilities, having to commute for 125 km to Ottawa. The stress this caused was immense, breaking the balance between work and personal life.

No individual should be burdened with such extensive travel to and from work. The current requirement for Canadian Federal employees of 125 km one-way is unreasonable and antiquated. I am proposing that we bring this down to a more acceptable range, such as 75 km.

Apart from the hardships faced by employees, there is the larger issue of the impact on our environment. With the crisis of climate change looming over us, the government should pave the way for eco-friendliness by decreasing the necessity for such long commutes.

If we take into consideration that a car emits approximately 2.4 kg of CO2 per liter of gasoline burned (source: Natural Resources Canada), imagine the substantial reduction in carbon footprint we could achieve by cutting employee commute distances in half across the federal sector.

In our fight against climate change and for an improved quality of life for all federal employees, I implore you to sign this petition. Together, we can make our voices heard and pave the way for a more reasonable and eco-friendly workplace commute policy.
