The Issue

Working as a mixer/baker at a Costco in Michigan, I face a daunting challenge every day. Our bakery is overwhelmed with the vast number of items that we are required to produce. This is not only a personal struggle but a shared one among all positions in the bakery. The workload is excessive, and the demands are relentless. Each day feels like a race against time, and not in a good way. The stress and pressure are affecting our ability to perform effectively and efficiently.

The current array of products not only puts an unrealistic burden on the staff but also has potential downstream effects on the quality of the goods we produce. It's nearly impossible to maintain high standards with such pressure, and it’s affecting morale across the whole team. We are deeply committed to our customers and aim to provide exceptional products, but without a reduction in the variety of items, our capabilities are severely strained leading to compromised quality that could disappoint our loyal customers.

Moreover, this issue isn't isolated to just our location. Many team members in other Costco bakeries have expressed similar concerns about this overwhelming workload. We need a supportive environment that considers the mental and physical well-being of employees, and thus, a review of the operational demands in all bakeries is crucial. Reducing the number of items will not only ease the burden on the staff but also enhance the overall productivity and quality of the goods.

We urge Costco's management to reconsider the current strategy and work towards a more sustainable model. By refining the list of bakery items, we can deliver better products and service, ultimately benefiting both employees and customers. Please sign this petition to help us bring about this much-needed change in Costco bakeries for the welfare of all concerned.
