Reduce the age of criminal responsibility for assault and bullying

Reduce the age of criminal responsibility for assault and bullying
The Issue
My daughter has been tormented and bullied for two years by three sisters who are just 8, 9, and 11 years old. Despite repeated pleas for help, no substantial action has been taken against these children due to their ages. Our current legal system in the United Kingdom does not hold minors under a certain age adequately accountable for serious acts of bullying or harassment. This loophole leaves many young victims, like my daughter, without the protection they desperately need and deserve.
Bullying is not just 'kids being kids'; it has severe consequences on the mental and emotional well-being of the victims. Studies have shown that prolonged bullying can lead to depression, anxiety, and even post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The law must adapt to protect children from these devastating effects, regardless of the age of the aggressor. Data from [reputable source] highlights that over [X]% of childhood bullying incidents go unpunished because the perpetrators are deemed 'too young' under current legislation.
How many children have either taken their own life or have sustained life changing injuries or died due to being kicked or repeatedly punched in the head? All because bullies are too young to be charged yet get a telling off by their parents! No help from police, social services, the school or the local council! I have been passed from pillar to post by each of them to be told that it's someone elses responsibilty & in the meantime the assaults are getting more violent! I will not stand by & watch my daughter come home in a state like the above picture time & time again.Something needs to be done & my daughter & every other bullying victims deserve to be happy, safe & have a childhood .
Reducing the age at which a child can be held legally accountable for acts such as assault, bullying, and harassment is a necessary step. It would act as a deterrent against such behaviors and ensure that victims receive justice. By revising the legal framework, ensuring that schools and communities hold all individuals accountable, we can create a safer and more nurturing environment for every child to grow and learn.
I call upon legislators and policymakers to review and amend the current laws regarding the age of criminal responsibility. It is imperative to reevaluate what constitutes an appropriate response to juvenile misconduct so children do not have to endure ongoing harm without recourse. Let's stand together to protect our children; sign this petition to urge for change and ensure that every child is safe and supported in their environments.
