Reduce tannoy noise at new inn and pontypool railway station

The Issue

For years, my peaceful village life in New Inn has been a source of joy and tranquility. I used to spend my afternoons basking in the gentle sounds of nature while enjoying a book or sipping a cup of tea in my garden. However, this serenity has been disrupted by the loud tannoy announcements from the nearby New Inn and Pontypool Railway Station.

The noise from the tannoys is relentless, with frequent and repetitive announcements, predominantly filled with apologies for delayed or cancelled trains. It's distressing to see our once quiet neighborhood transformed into a cacophony, more fitting for a bustling city rather than our small community. The disruption affects not just me but the entire neighborhood, robbing us of our peaceful environment.

Research shows that excessive noise pollution can significantly affect mental wellbeing, contributing to stress and a reduced quality of life. According to the World Health Organization, noise pollution is a growing environmental problem and long-term exposure is linked to increased risk of heart disease, sleep disturbances, and cognitive impairment in children.

As a community, we deserve to live in an environment where we can enjoy the simple pleasures of life without disruption. While we understand the need for public announcements, the volume level should be reduced, or alternative quieter methods of communication should be explored, such as text alerts or digital screens.

I am calling upon Transport for Wales to address this pressing issue by adjusting tannoy volumes and considering alternative communication methods suitable for our village. Let's bring back the tranquility of New Inn for all residents.
