Reduce Speed Limit on Maritime Road in Kirkfield to 40km/hr for Safety

The Issue

As a resident of Kirkfield, ON, Canada, I walk daily with my infant and animals along Maritime Road. On numerous occasions, vehicles driving at high speeds have nearly hit us along with children playing. This road is characterized by multiple hills which make oncoming traffic (whether walking or driving) blind to opposing traffic. Additionally, many vehicles drive down the center of this dirt road without regard for the hills and bends combined with their alarming rate of speed.

The current un-posted speed limit is 80km/hr - a dangerous speed given the conditions of Maritime Road. We propose reducing this to a posted maximum limit of 40km/hr. According to Transport Canada's report "Speed Management and Road Safety", lower speed limits significantly reduce the risk and severity of accidents (Transport Canada).

This change will not only protect pedestrians walking, enjoying the weather and scenery like myself but also ensure safer driving conditions for motorists who use this road regularly.

We were guided by the City of Kawartha Lakes that we will need to send in a signed petition in order for the change to happen. Please sign our petition to reduce the speed limit on the dead end Maritime Road in Kirkfield from an un-posted 80km/hr to a posted 40km/hr maximum.

It is very appreciated and thank you very much!
