Reduce Speed Limit on Brunswick Road in Nevada County

Reduce Speed Limit on Brunswick Road in Nevada County
The Issue
Brunswick Road, located near Highway 174 in Grass Valley, CA, is one of the few stretches in the area with an unusually high speed limit of 50 mph. This section of the road goes through a residential area, presenting a significant safety risk due to its unique features. While the rest of Brunswick Road is limited to 45 mph or less, this small segment remains unnoticed for its potential dangers.
The challenging characteristics of this stretch include being unlit, which drastically reduces visibility at night, and a steep grade with a significant blind turn just waiting to catch unsuspecting drivers off guard. Unfortunately, these factors have led to numerous accidents, including spin outs and collisions in wet weather. Even more concerning, collisions with local wildlife and pets, and damage to personal property are common occurrences, posing both an environmental and economic burden on the community. Accidents along this stretch often go unreported. With the addition of a new housing development just down the road and a fleet yard at the Idaho Maryland Mine, we will have more traffic and activity along this road making, increasing the likelihood of accidents.
Community safety must be prioritized. By petitioning the Nevada County authorities, we aim to lower the speed limit to 40 mph on Brunswick Road and implement stricter enforcement policies. Such a measure will not only help prevent accidents but also protect the local wildlife, reduce road noise, and preserve property. A modest decrease in the speed limit can make a substantial difference in ensuring the well-being of our residents and their environment.
Please join us in this plea to make Brunswick Road safer for everyone by supporting this call for action. Your signature will help us urge the county to reevaluate this hazardous stretch of road and introduce necessary safety measures. Together, we can advocate for safer roadways and protect our community from preventable accidents. Sign this petition to demand change and promote safety for Grass Valley's residents and visitors alike.
