Reduce Speed Limit in Windsor for Enhanced Safety

Reduce Speed Limit in Windsor for Enhanced Safety
The Issue
Seeing a car hit a bicyclist in one of my everyday routes made me realize the deeply-rooted issue we have in our community: an unsafe speed limit.
Our plea is to lower the speed limit from 35 mph to 25 mph in two crucial sections:
1) Along Windsor Road, between Windsor High School and the downtown traffic circle.
2) Along Windsor River Road between Starr Road and the downtown traffic circle.
Both corridors consistently have an alarming number of pedestrians, host hidden driveways and have active bicyclists riding the road. These aspects of our community's daily life are not harmonizing well with the current 35 mph speed limit.
The aim is simple and urgent: to secure a safer passageway for our community members traversing these areas. The infrastructure in these areas does not currently support safe speeds of 35 mph due to the increased foot traffic, numerous blind driveways, and the presence of vulnerable groups like children and the elderly.
Lower speed limits are recognized commonly as an effective measure for reducing traffic accidents and pedestrian injuries. A study by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety declared a significant increase in the risk of severe injury for pedestrians when struck by vehicles at speeds exceeding 25 mph as compared with lower speeds (Retting et al., AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, 2011).
So, let's band together and demand this change for a safer community. We need to ensure the roads near our beloved Windsor High School, downtown traffic circle and the busy junctions become less dangerous – the lives of our community members, young and old, may depend on it. Sign this petition and help us make this change.
