The Issue

Our community is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of every individual and living creature within our neighborhood. To enhance safety for our residents and protect our local wildlife, we are advocating for a reduction in the speed limit from 35 mph to 25 mph on Steeplechase Drive and Highland Avenue. Additionally, we propose the construction of sidewalks to facilitate safe walking and biking.

The roads of Steeplechase Drive and Highland Avenue are frequently used by families, children, and pet owners. The current speed limit poses a significant risk to pedestrians and cyclists alike. Walking and biking are essential activities for a healthy lifestyle, and our residents should be able to partake in these activities without fearing for their safety.

Moreover, our community is home to diverse wildlife, including deer that often cross these roads. A reduced speed limit, coupled with visible pedestrian pathways, will drastically decrease the likelihood of accidents involving these creatures, preserving our local ecology and preventing tragic incidents.

There are numerous studies and statistics indicating that lower speed limits reduce the severity and occurrence of accidents. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, lowering speed limits can lead to a 5% decrease in road fatalities. By implementing these changes, we can create a safer and more harmonious environment for everyone.

We urge our local authorities to take immediate action to protect our community members and wildlife by reducing the speed limit and adding sidewalks. Please join us in supporting this initiative for a safer neighborhood by signing this petition. Together, we can make a difference.
