Reduce skyrocketing electric bills in Ohio

The Issue

I am a resident of Ohio, living in a modest 1600 sq ft home equipped with brand new insulation aimed at energy efficiency. Despite these measures, I have witnessed my electricity bills surge alarmingly to $450 a month. This is a staggering increase that has occurred in just one year, doubling the financial burden on households across our state. As a single income household, this weight is unsustainable for me and many others like me.

Rising energy costs place an unfair and disproportionate strain on Ohioans, particularly those living on fixed or single incomes. The cost of electricity is a necessity, not a luxury, and should be reasonably accessible for every resident. It's essential to scrutinize the factors leading to such rapid increases in electricity rates and take proactive steps to alleviate this financial pressure.

I urge Ohio's energy regulators and elected representatives to investigate the pricing policies of utility companies like Duke Energy, which serve our communities. Increased transparency in billing and a thorough review of rate hikes are crucial steps in ensuring fair pricing.

Moreover, there should be programs and incentives in place to support energy conservation and the use of renewable energy sources. These measures can aid in reducing overall demand and, consequently, consumer costs.

Implementing tiered pricing structures could also provide relief, particularly to low-income and single-income households who are disproportionately affected by these hikes.

Join me in calling for a comprehensive review of Ohio's electric pricing model and the implementation of more equitable solutions. Sign this petition to demand action from our leaders and ensure that no Ohioan has to choose between keeping their lights on and affording their livelihood.
