Reduce Skill-Based Matchmaking in Call of Duty Public Game Matches

The Issue

As passionate gamers, we find ourselves constantly striving to improve and enjoy the games we love. However, the current level of skill-based matchmaking in Call of Duty's public matches is taking a toll on our enjoyment. We are not always looking for a high-stakes competition; sometimes, we just want to have fun.

Skill-based matchmaking has its merits, but it should not be so strong that it takes away from the casual gaming experience. A study by Electronic Entertainment Design and Research found that 67% of gamers prefer playing games for fun rather than competition (EEDAR, 2019). This statistic clearly indicates that there is a significant portion of the gaming community who would benefit from toned-down skill-based matchmaking.

We understand that game developers implement skill-based matchmaking with good intentions - to make matches fairer and more balanced. However, this system often results in every game becoming an intense battle where players must try their hardest to win or face severe penalties and lose enjoyment of the game.

We are not asking for the complete removal of skill-based matchmaking but rather a balance between competitive play and casual enjoyment. By reducing its intensity in public matches, players can still have challenging encounters without feeling overwhelmed or pressured into constant "try-hard" mode.
