As concerned citizens of Cambria, we witness the unfortunate deaths of the our treasured wildlife on our roads each day due to high speed driving. This personal story serves as a wake-up call for the urgent need to lower the residential speed limit on all Cambria county roads to 25 mph in alignment with California state regulations. These particular roads pass through areas dense with precious wildlife and are currently hazardous to both animals and humans due to the high speed limits allowed. Statistics indicate that speed-related crashes, both involving animals and even humans, can be significantly minimized with the reduction of speed limits (NCHRP Report 500). Further, a lower speed limit could create a safer environment for pedestrians, cyclists, and children playing near the roads. We ask the local authorities to enforce a residential speed limit of 25 mph on all county roads in Cambria, for the safety of all people and wildlife.
