Lake Okeechobee drainage basins are 5 to 7 times more polluted than the government issued “acceptable limits.” There is a basin water action plan in place, but it is being ignored. Leaked fertilizer and phosphorous from cow manure lead to increased concentrations of red tide throughout east Florida and particularly Sanibel Island.

We must stop letting FL agriculture dictate safe water. The state can fine agricultural polluters, but it hasn’t. Please take action and ask FL officials to get serious about tackling the underlying sources of Red Tide.
